We are pleased to announce that at the monthly Board meeting held on Thursday 4 January the Board elected a new Chair and Vice Chair. Dr Simon Brownleader has been elected Chair and Dr Joe Hall as Vice Chair with immediate effect.
They replace Dr Phil Bennett-Richards and Dr Nicola Hadrup, who have undertaken these roles for several years. The Board would like to thank them both for their hard work and support during that time and for leading the Care Group so successfully.

The inaugural Tower Hamlets General Practice Challenge Cup saw the Millwall Docz come from a goal behind to beat the Tower Hamlets All Starz in the final. The All Starz, a combo of Network 6 and the Care Group office, were unbeaten on their way to the final and bookies favourite to lift the trophy. The Starz seemed poised for victory after taking an early lead but 2 quick fire goals from the Docz saw them secure the title. Millwall Docz skipper, Toby (Tobes) Longwill, GP from Island Health said ‘This is a historic day, we came here to show what Island Health and Network 8 can do, and the lads did us proud. We're well chuffed’…
In the chilly evening of Friday 27th October, at the rooftop pitches in Bow school, 6 strong teams represented their localities and practices. The Highway team (Network 4) caught the eye early on with their red and white striped kit. There was also a local derby between Limehouse Lions and Lionesses, and the official Network 7 team, mainly fielding players from Aberfeldy. Although the Limehouse and Lionesses, led by Kirsten Shirke, failed to secure a win, they made a fantastic their effort and the only team to consistently field a mix gender team in all games. Thank you to East End Eagles, representing Network 1, who completed the teams and proved to be a tough opposition for all the teams they faced. Overall, the Tournament was a fun and competitive night out for all. Thank you to everyone who participated and to their family and friends who came to support the event. There is a new call line number for the GP Out of Hours Service - 03000 33 5000.
This new number gives greater flexibility and provides improved resilience in the event of an incident, e.g. malware attack. The number is now operational, any calls to the previous number are being diverted to the new number for a period of six months whilst we ensure that all stakeholders are aware of the new number. Tower Hamlets GP Care Group now provides the GP Out of Hours service for the Borough.
Since the removal of last winter's indemnity support by NHS England, several Tower Hamlets GPs have told us they would be happy to work shifts for the service but for the prohibitive cost of medical indemnity insurance. In response to this, we are very pleased to announce that indemnity cover has been arranged by THGPCG and has been implemented from this week for the OOH service. This means that if GPs currently work within the service either via Network Locums or a Care Group zero hours contract, they can chose to have their indemnity cover met by the service. Alternatively If they prefer they can continue with their current arrangements. GPs who do not currently work for the service and wish to join can also benefit from the indemnity cover. If you are a GP and would like to consider working within the Out of Hours service, even if you can only offer one session per month it would make a huge difference and really help us to continue to care for our patients when the surgeries are closed. If you are interested in joining the OOH service please send an expression of interest to our mailbox: [email protected] If you would like any further information please contact our Service Manager, Jane Baylis, via email at: [email protected] or call 0203 5940030. The Care Group's bid to NHS England for funding and training for 10 Clinical Pharmacists has been successful.
We applied for support for 2 senior pharmacists and 8 junior pharmacists to work with networks and practices. We are waiting for formal confirmation of next steps. |
